Deepika Padukone is reportedly in early-stage talks with Maddock Films for the female lead role in the ambitious mythological drama, Mahavatar, a project that would see her star opposite Vicky Kaushal for the very first time.
The film, which is directed by Amar Kaushik (known for Stree and Bala), centers on the immortal warrior Parashurama, played by Vicky Kaushal.
The mythological epic was announced in November 2024 and is currently deep in the pre-production phase, but the casting for the female lead has been a closely guarded secret, generating immense industry buzz.
Padukone’s potential involvement gained traction after she was recently spotted outside the Maddock Films office, initially fueling rumors about her joining the production house’s horror-comedy universe. However, sources close to the production indicate that the primary discussions are centered on Mahavatar.
According to production insiders, the team is actively seeking an actress who can inject the female role with both gravitas and significant emotional depth, qualities that they believe Deepika Padukone inherently possesses and that would complement Kaushal’s intense portrayal of Parashurama.
Director Amar Kaushik has reportedly emphasized that the female lead’s character must hold an “equal footing in the narrative”, ensuring that the role is not merely a supporting one but a strong, pivotal character in the unfolding mythological saga.
The prospect of this pairing is generating high excitement among fans and trade analysts, as it would unite two of Bollywood’s most acclaimed and bankable stars for the first time on screen, promising a fresh and powerhouse dynamic for the epic scale of the film.
While discussions are still in the preliminary stages, Padukone is noted to be among the top names the studio is engaging with, making her casting a strong possibility. If finalized, this collaboration would mark a significant cinematic event, blending the raw intensity of Vicky Kaushal with the commanding presence of Deepika Padukone in a large-scale mythological production.
