In a noteworthy gathering that has captured the attention of film lovers, actress Taapsee Pannu alongside director Anubhav Sinha has officially revealed the initial glimpse of their third project, named Assi. After their well-received works Mulk (2018) and Thappad (2020), this duo is set to return to the courtroom with a gripping thriller that’s touted as an “urgent watch.
” The motion poster, which debuted on January 23, 2026, showcases a striking and somber image of Taapsee Pannu in the role of a lawyer, her face marked with black ink, portraying a mixture of turmoil and determination. The promotional campaign for the movie has taken a distinctive approach, kicking off with text-centric posters that carry the dark phrase: “Eighty. Per Day. Every Day.”—a stark reference to the levels of sexual violence occurring in India.
The film’s title, Assi, meaning eighty, poignantly highlights the disturbing fact that an average of 80 rapes are reported daily in India. The narrative reportedly centers around a woman, portrayed by Kani Kusruti, famed for her role in the internationally recognized All We Imagine As Light, who endures a gang-rape, followed by a legal struggle led by Taapsee’s character to obtain justice.
The trailer, which was cleverly attached to the theatrical versions of the hit movie Border 2, has been characterized as a “powerful courtroom drama” that refrains from sensationalism, focusing instead on tough and uncomfortable inquiries regarding societal complicity and accountability of institutions.
The production team also garnered attention by declaring that the film’s writer, Gaurav Solanki, known for Article 15, is the highest-paid member of the team, emphasizing the commitment to substantive storytelling.
Assi features an exceptional cast that includes Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, with special guest appearances by renowned veterans Naseeruddin Shah and Supriya Pathak Kapur. Produced by T-Series and Benaras Mediaworks, the film is set to release in theaters around the world on February 20, 2026.
Taapsee, known for her impactful performances, took to social media to showcase the poster, saying, “It’s been a while since we’ve normalized this. See you in court. . . I mean the theatres. ” As it gears up for its late-February debut, the film is already being regarded as a likely spiritual successor to Pink, intended to awaken the audience’s collective conscience.
