KineMaster (OLD): A Pioneer in Professional Mobile Video Editing

KineMaster (OLD) refers to the earlier versions of the popular mobile video editor, particularly those released before its major feature and interface overhauls, cementing its place as a groundbreaking tool for content creators on Android and iOS devices. Launched by NexStreaming, KineMaster was among the first mobile applications to offer a true, professional-grade, multi-track, non-linear editing (NLE) experience directly on a smartphone or tablet, a capability previously exclusive to desktop software.

The classic interface was typically characterized by a distinctive radial menu system—often referred to as the “Media Circle”—on the right side of the screen, which housed the main options for adding media, layers (text, images, effects), audio, and performing direct recording. This layout, combined with a central preview window and a robust, full-screen, pinch-to-zoom timeline at the bottom, provided an intuitive but powerful workflow that was easily managed with touch controls.

Core to the older KineMaster’s appeal were advanced features like support for multiple video, image, text, and handwriting layers, which allowed for complex video compositions and picture-in-picture effects. Crucially, the app included professional tools such as Chroma Key (for green screen removal), a robust set of color adjustment and filtering options, precise trimming and splitting tools, and the highly coveted Keyframe Animation.

Keyframing enabled users to precisely control the movement, size, and rotation of layered elements over time, allowing for dynamic animated introductions and overlays that significantly elevated the quality of mobile-produced content.

The app also featured an Asset Store, offering a wide variety of downloadable effects, transitions, and stickers, though many premium assets were only accessible via a paid subscription, with the free version famously applying a visible watermark to exported videos.

Despite the watermark—which became a recognizable hallmark of the application—the depth of the toolset in those older versions was revolutionary, making KineMaster the go-to editor for a generation of mobile-first creators, especially YouTubers and social media users, before the rise of simpler, template-focused competitors.
