AA 23′: Allu Arjun’s Next Will Be Directed By Lokesh Kanagaraj

On January 14, 2026, the Indian movie sector experienced a significant transformation with the formal unveiling of AA23 (also known as AALoki or LK7), an electrifying partnership featuring “Icon Star” Allu Arjun alongside the bold Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj. Released as a celebratory treat for Bhogi and Pongal, the announcement was shared via a captivating two-minute animated teaser created by Mythri Movie Makers, renowned for their work on the Pushpa series. This initiative represents a groundbreaking moment as it signifies Lokesh Kanagaraj’s inaugural endeavor in Telugu film and marks his 23rd project overall, while it also accounts for Allu Arjun’s 23rd movie.

The announcement video, which opted out of conventional dialogue in favor of what can be termed a “visual poem,” rapidly ignited excitement on social platforms with its intense and symbolic visuals. The teaser begins with a dawn breaking over vast, unrestrained grasslands filled with wildlife, then shifts to highlight a lone, silhouetted figure resembling Allu Arjun walking past a blazing fire in a shadowy forest.

Another compelling shot presents the lead character on a rugged hill, attempting to tame a wild, mighty horse—an image many fans see as a narrative about “mastering chaos. ” The intensity escalates dramatically when a group of fierce wolves charges at a lion, only to be subdued by an overwhelming, booming roar, concluding with the project’s official tagline: “Strive for Greatness. ”

“Rockstar” Anirudh Ravichander is set to reunite with Lokesh after their previous collaborations on Vikram, Leo, and Coolie, an event that fans have eagerly awaited. The teaser’s song, titled “23,” showcases powerful lyrics by Heisenberg and features vocals from Hector Salamanca, presenting a strong rap element with Western influences that hint the film could delve into a contemporary Western or “Outlaw” theme.

In light of the massive box-office success of Pushpa 2: The Rule, which is reported to have earned over ₹1,870 crore, this partnership is perceived as a strategic move by Allu Arjun to reinforce his presence across India. Currently, he is engaged in shooting a high-concept science fiction film with director Atlee, tentatively named AA 22, but he has conveyed his excitement for the Lokesh project on X (formerly Twitter), expressing that he is “Locked in mentally” for this new adventure. For Lokesh Kanagaraj, AA23 signifies an important return after his film Coolie, which featured Rajinikanth, received mixed reviews earlier in 2025.

Filming for AA23 is expected to commence in August or October 2026, following the completion of Allu Arjun’s work with Atlee and actor Deepika Padukone. While the storyline details remain a tightly held secret,

it is anticipated that the creator of the “Loki-verse” will inject his signature elements of “stylized violence,” intricate character development, and possibly an expansion of his interconnected cinematic universe (LCU), although some sources indicate this will primarily stand alone.

The participation of producers Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar guarantees that the film will be produced on a grand scale, with rumors indicating a budget surpassing ₹300 crore. As preparations for the project begin, it is arguably the most eagerly awaited pan-Indian film of the upcoming year, promising a distinctive mix of Allu Arjun’s effortless appeal and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s gritty, urban, and atmospheric narrative style.
